Jeff Grell launched Snowsurfing International, Inc. in 1979 with the goal of promoting and developing the fledgling sport of snowboarding. Using a combination of event promotions and teaching programs, Snowsurfing created a legacy in the snowboarding industry. Grell, well-known as the inventor of the Highback snowboard binding, was also a sport organizer and teacher and snowboard designer. Launching the first Snowboarding School at the Aspen Highlands and Aspen Skiing Companies, Grell then promoted the Aspen Grand Prix competitions as well as started several snowboard startup companies.  

Snowsurfing under Grell has over produced over 300 professional snowboarding events, manufactured thousands of boards and helped thousands of aspiring snowboarders get started in this exciting sport. The events and instructional programs will help improve ability and offer a glimpse of the early days of the sport.

Snowboarding -- A Visual Lesson
This is a fast-paced instructional program for snowboard enthusiasts. This production features a five-stage, step-by-step instruction on the mountain with Jeffrey Grell, president of Snowsurfing International, Inc. The instructional segments are based on effective teaching methods and exercises developed by Grell. Also included in this program are segments from the 1986-87 Aspen Grand Prix of Snowboarding. Grell founded Snowsurfing International, Inc. in 1979 to promote the sports growth. He competed on the Flite Snowboard factory team from 1979-84 and designed and invented the Highback snowboard binding in 1983. Grell was the first director of snowboarding (1986-87) for the Aspen Highlands Ski Resort and the first director of snowboarding for the Aspen Skiing Company in 1988. Snowboarding Tips with Jeff Grell
As anchorman and talent for the "Snowboard Tips" segments, Jeff Grell is an innovator in the snowboarding world. As inventor of the Highback Binding, snowboard designer and manufacturer, he coordinated the production of the first ever nationally televised snowboarding competition and released the first instructional video to the snowboarding world. Jeff is a member of the Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA), and a member of the first PSIA national Team and currently is active with FIS Snowboarding as a technical delegate. 1987 Ocean Pacific Grand Prix of Snowboarding
The first professional snowboarding event to ever be televised happened in 1987 in Aspen, Colorado. Launching what would become the fastest growing winter sport, this event showcases over 100 athletes including legendary snowboarders, Craig Kelly, Shaun Palmer, Terry Kidwell, Jose Fernandez, Mark Heingartner, Kerri Hannon, and more as they compete in four disciplines:The Downhill, sixty seconds at high speed on Aspen Highlands Golden Horn/Thunderbowl, The Giant Slalom with more gates and less distance, the dual slalom featuring head to head action, and the halfpipe competition on one of the steepest and gnarliest runs ever. The event is unique in that it hosted many of the future stars of snowboarding and took place at a time when the sport was still in its infancy.
